Pray for the worldwide work of The Alliance

OCTOBER PRAYER FOCUS: Pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Alliance churches, giving congregations a deeper hunger for God and a heart for the lost.

URGENT PRAYER REQUESTS
COLOMBIA: Leidy, the daughter of the Colombia C&MA president, was seriously injured in a car accident last Friday night and is paralyzed from the neck down. She and her brother are involved in a university ministry attended by more than 300 students. Pray for a miraculous healing and that God will be glorified through this. Pray also for peace for Leidy and her family.

AFRICA
BURKINA FASO: Pray for the 250 widows who have been invited to a conference beginning October 6 at Maranatha Bible Institute. Pray for speakers Noelle Dembele, Alliance Women’s President of Mali, and Rev. Job Dao, Burkina Alliance church president.

Pray for Maimouna, a woman in Esther Schaeffer’s Bible study at Yegereso, whose husband died suddenly. He was not a Christian, and she is one of three wives. Pray that she will stand firm in her faith during this difficult time.
 
Pray that God will provide funds for Christian families to send their children to school.

Pray for Andrew Schaeffer as he tours this month in the States with Rev. Prosper Sanou, director of Maranatha Bible Institute. Pray for safe travel and for family members back home.

Praise God! The total of C&MA pastors in Burkina Faso reaches almost 500. Pray for unity among these pastors and their churches and districts. Pray for a true spirit of evangelism to the many unreached villages and regions that still remain in Burkina Faso.

Women’s Sunday is November 2. Pray for the Alliance Women’s groups as they lead the services on that day. Pray that the women’s testimonies will draw many people to faith in Jesus. Pray for all who are speaking in churches that day.

Pray for Toby Hull and Kevin Oberg as they prepare evangelism outreaches.

Continue to pray for Pastor Marcel who is suffering from cancer. He is not doing well and is in pain. Pray for his wife, Suzanne, as she is in desperate need of encouragement these days, and for their children. Marcel’s faith is strong. Pray that God will continue to use him for His glory.

Kiersten Hull is teaching in two local churches each week this month. Pray that these women’s groups will be encouraged in their faith and walk with the Lord.

Pray for Bonnie and Kevin Oberg and their children as they take a much-needed vacation October 12–26. Pray that they will have a great time together as a family and that they will returned refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready to serve with joy in their hearts.

Pray for Tim and Susie Allen, the Burkina field pastoral couple from Pennsylvania, who will be in Burkina for a few weeks in late October. Pray for safe travel, good health, and that their time with the mission team will be mutually encouraging.

Kevin Oberg and a delegation from Bobo-Dioulasso and Samorogouan are hoping to finish up all the paperwork and final payment for the Samorogouan property this Wednesday. Pray that the proper authorities will be there and that everything will go smoothly without any problems.

CÔTE D’IVOIRE: Pray for Matt Cook’s ministry in The World Evangelical Alliance, a theological commission that is working on a book about living out the Christian faith in different cultures. Pray for safety as Matt and Cindy Cook travel to Bangkok to attend meetings and conferences on this topic. Pray for wisdom to help churches worldwide live more faithfully to Jesus Christ in their local contexts. Pray for the many logistics necessary in bringing this book to fruition.

Thanks to all who prayed for the safe arrival of Matt and Cindy Cook’s luggage, which arrived in Bamako this week. Pray that they will be able to transport their belongings from Bamako to Abidjan.

GABON: Pray for details concerning construction of a Sunday school shelter for the Bongolo Church. Pray for the church as it deals with the recent loss of several leaders.

Pray for energy and encouragement for Renée Valach, who has been suffering from fatigue.

A little boy who was being treated at Bongolo Hospital died of cerebral malaria, and a premature baby died the same day. Pray that the families of the children will know the comfort that can come only from the Prince of Peace.

MALI: Praise God for the mothers and babies who are receiving loving care and hearing the good news every day! Pray that the seeds being planted will grow and bear fruit. Pray for courage for women and families to choose to follow Jesus.

Pray for Koutiala Hospital staff members as they are being stretched to the maximum of patients and a workload that has been much heavier this past month. September and October are the highest months for deliveries, and there also are many illnesses. Although the pediatric ward is not officially opened, the hospital is regularly admitting babies with severe cases of malaria, infections, and malnutrition. Pray for strength and wisdom for each staff member and for the many new workers who still have much to learn.

Praise God! An anesthesiologist from the United States is coming to visit for the next few weeks. Pray that this will be a helpful time as he works with hospital staff and gives several lectures.

Pray for Shawn McCabe (CAMA), who is on a two-week trip into the bush.

Pray for diligence for Shawn and Becky McCabe while they are in part-time Bambara language study.

REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO: Pray for Dave and Teresa Bill while they are apart as a family on missionary tour. Pray for safety, good health, and God’s anointing on their speaking ministries.

Pray that a container of medical supplies will pass easily through customs with exoneration and without delays.

SENEGAL: Pray for Brian and Michelle Davis as they visit and connect with many of their neighbors. Pray for the development of many good relationships that have eternal significance. Also, pray for several Bible studies that Brian and Michelle are leading.

Pray that Michael and Valerie Stephens’ visa applications will be processed quickly.

ASIA/PACIFIC
INDONESIA: The Jakarta guesthouse experienced one of its busiest months in September, housing the field leadership team for a week of meetings as well as other workers and vacationing families. Pray for guesthouse staff members, who are from the majority religion. Pray that God will reveal Himself as their Messiah.
 
Praise God for a wonderful retreat for pastors in Central and South Kalimantan! About 30 workers were in attendance, including their families. Pray for critical church-planting efforts in this region and for Pak Shaz and his wife, Homi, the district superintendent couple who provide leadership in this expansive and developing area.
 
Pray for Judy Gaskin and Awana Indonesia as they complete the purchase of the Awana Indonesia national office in Jakarta.
 
Judy Gaskin’s coworker, Yvonne Palar, has tried for two years to sell her house, located near Camp Good News. Pray that she will be able to find a buyer soon.

JAPAN: Pray for the final paper work to arrive soon for Alan and Jill Kropp and their two children, approved missionaries waiting to come to Japan.

Pray for the final adoption paperwork to be processed quickly for Dale and Heidi Lemke’s little daughter, Selah, so that they can return for home assignment. Also, pray that the Lemke’s ministry to university students and English teaching in the community will draw young people to Christ.

Praise God for the baptism of Seiko, a young mother of four, and Manami, a teenage girl from the Chiba Church, on September 21. Pray for their spiritual growth.

Praise God for the unity of the church family at Sengendai Church as they have voted to go forward with investigating the purchase of a potential building for their church that has been meeting in a rented facility for some time. Continue to pray for Dick and Janice Kropp as they lead the church in these significant days. Praise God for several men who have started coming back to church and for other men who are involved in leadership.

Continue to pray for God’s provision for Japanese pastors for Kawaguchi Church and Sengendai Church. Pray that many believers would commit their lives to full-time service so that more churches can be started.

Pray for the Kawaguchi Church fall retreat October 12–13.  A guest speaker will be ministering to the congregation. Pray for God’s leading in all the preparations and for Don and Hazel Schaeffer as they lead the church in outreach, evangelism, and spiritual foundation teaching.

Pray for Ken and Kathy Young as they teach at the Alliance seminary and work with churches in the Hiroshima area. Pray for the Hope House ministry as they teach English and minister to people at a nearby hospital.

Pray for Harry Landaw’s preaching and teaching ministries and wisdom in leading the Japan Alliance mission along with the field leadership team. They will meet together October 20.

Pray for Jane Landaw’s speaking ministries to three young mothers’ groups. Many are not yet Christians.

Pray for God’s blessing on the annual Tokyo-area women’s seminar. Women from all the Allaince churches attend. Pray for wisdom in the final planning, God’s protection on the speaker coming from England, the Holy Spirit’s leading on each one who has a part, and good weather.

MONGOLIA: Praise God for a speedy recovery for Jeremy and Krista Fields’ son Zeke, who had broken his arm. Praise God that the cast is off, and thanks to all who prayed! Pray for healing for their son Isaiah, who has a large cyst on his head.

Pray for Jeremy Fields as he travels some weekends and for Krista and the children at home.

Pray for two churches that are experiencing a leadership crisis. Pray that God will intervene.

Pray for new students as they commit themselves to ministry and pastoral training.

TAIWAN: Taiwan has just survived the strongest typhoon this season, and there appears to be another one in the making. Many crops in the rural areas were flattened. Pray that people of Taiwan will not depend on the goddess Matsu for protection but rather turn to the God who created heaven and earth.

Praise God that Eva wants to attend church with workers from Baojhong, Yunlin County. Pray for wisdom as they continue developing their relationship with her and others who have shown interest in spiritual matters.

Candy, a third grader, visits her father on weekends. She often pops in at Don and Rachel Kramer’s house two doors down. Pray for softening of her heart towards Jesus and that the Kramers will have wisdom to know how to love Candy. Candy’s father and work buddies often invite Don for tea or barbequed chicken.

Pray that children of Alliance workers, many of whom are in junior high and high school, will find their identity in Jesus Christ.

Pray that Alliance workers will be able to develop friendships in rural communities.

EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST
BALKANS: Pray for Christian businesspeople and embassy workers. Some of them are young in the faith and are still developing a significant spiritual core to their decisions and interactions. Pray for their marriages and other relationships.

FRANCE: Pray for Trinity Church of Strasbourg members as they begin fall ministries, including home cell groups, Sunday school, and more. Pray that God will meet their every need.

Terri Althaus is exploring the idea of teaching English in a French business setting as a bridge into the community in Strasbourg. Pray for God’s leading in this.

Pray for Todd Althaus as he travels in Michigan and Ohio speaking in Alliance churches and mobilizing people for the worldwide work of the C&MA.

GERMANY: Pray for Valary Mullenix as she travels during the next few months to train a new bookkeeper.

Pray for Valary’s friend Eileen. Pray that she will grow in her relationship with the Lord and receive the love that He wants to lavish on her.

Praise God for His providing an intern (Abbi) to help watch Ben and Sarah Carey’s children during language study. Thanks to all who prayed! Pray for Abbi’s safe arrival and a smooth transition.

Pray for Ben and Sarah Carey as they become more involved in conversations with friends, coworkers, and strangers. Pray for boldness and clarity, confidence and understanding. Also, pray for Sarah as she assists in teaching English classes at Open Door’s Conversation Café. Pray that God will use the Café as a bridge to those who would not normally step inside a church.

RUSSIA: Praise God! After not being granted a letter of invitation to apply for her new visa, Wilma Priest was informed that she will be receiving her invitation after all. Pray for Ron and Wilma Priest as they travel to Madrid on October 9 to acquire their new visas.

Pray for a women’s conference November 2–4. Ask that God will bless this conference and that women will come away refreshed and renewed.

Continue to pray for the tenuous situation regarding all of the visas here on the field. Pray that the effects of the visa issues that have come up in the last week will not lead to the closing of the international school that Alliance missionary kids attend.

LATIN AMERICA
BRAZIL: Pray for Ruth Davis as she teaches several different Bible studies. Also, pray for the beginning of an English-speaking women’s prayer breakfast this Friday morning at the Davis house.

COLOMBIA: Pray for God’s blessing on a women’s retreat October 18. Pray that God will work in each heart.

Pray for salvation for women who attend a small group on floral arranging.

Pray Beverly Boon and Lorene Thomas who are speaking in churches. Pray for an anointing on their words and that God will challenge young people to full-time service for Him.

Pray for two teenagers who are experiencing a crisis in faith. Pray that God will meet them in a powerful way.

Pray that the El Encuentro church will experience a move of the Holy Spirit in hearts and lives.

Pray that a church member who lost her husband to cancer will be totally restored spiritually. Pray for a renewed interest in ministry and the life of the church.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Pray for Zac and Julie Stutler as they travel to the Bavaro and Punta Cana areas to investigate the possibility of planting a church in these spiritually needy resort communities. Pray for God’s wisdom and direction. Pray that He will guide the Stutlers and open doors in very special ways. Pray also that they will make strategic contacts in the area and that God will lead them to people who are searching for Christ.

Pray for two work teams from Alliance churches in New York State that will be in the Dominican Republic October 3-11 and October 18-25, respectively. Pray for protection, that they will be a blessing in the churches, and that they will return to their home churches on fire for missions.

Pray for the couples from House of Blessing Church who are preparing for an ALMA retreat October 24-26. Pray for the Lord’s covering and that all involved will remain healthy, safe, and spiritually prepared to minister to those who have been invited. Pray that many will recognize their need for the Lord in their marriages.

Praise the Lord that the retreat on inner healing with Mary Block now has a confirmed meeting place and date, October 31–November 1. Pray that the Lord will bring together a good number of people whom He is preparing to have their lives transformed. Pray that every obstacle of the enemy will be thrown down.

Praise the Lord for Nely, who recently followed the Lord in baptism in the Encounter Cell Church. Pray that she and her friend, Ana Graciela, will continue to grow in their relationship with the Lord as they are discipled.

Pray for preparations for the next workshop on writing Bible studies for cell groups. Pray that those who have taken the course will come to hone their skills and that capable new people will feel called to prepare for this ministry.

VENEZUELA: Bob and Joy Brougher request prayer for God’s leading in their lives after their one-year home assignment.

Pray for the Ibaven (Bible Institute leadership-training program), which has been turned over to the national church. A committee has been established to develop a program that the national church is capable of running. Remember this committee in prayer, along with missionaries Gaileen Warden and Rebecca Rodriguez as they work together on this project. 

UNITED STATES
METROPOLITAN DISTRICT: Praise God for an elderly Jewish woman who prayed to receive Jesus. Pray for Abe Sandler's outreach to Jewish people in the New York City C&MA church plant.

New England: Pray for Brian Fullerton, pastor at Gateway Alliance Church, Plymouth, New Hampshire, who will have a spinal tap on October 8. Pray that the cancer cells have not gone into the fluid. Also, please pray for wisdom regarding chemotherapy decisions.

Southern District: Pray for church planters Tim and Sharon Henning in Trussville, Alabama. Pray that God would open the door for a larger building to expand their ministry. Pray that they will continue to reach new people through various outreach efforts.

CREATIVE-ACCESS COUNTRIES
Remember CAC workers around the world. Pray for protection as well as for opportunities to share the good news. Pray that contacts will be drawn to Jesus.

Praise for the newborn child of a CAC couple who was hospitalized with meningitis. She has been discharged from the hospital and recovering well at home.

Pray for a worker who is beginning the “research phase” for ministry among an unreached group.

Continue to pray for Alliance workers who are planning to start a community center in October. Pray that the center will open doors to share Jesus.
