How We're Organized
The U.S. Christian and Missionary Alliance (in the United States) is a group of
churches united in a pattern of districts with a national hub. Thus, local
churches in the Alliance are not wholly independent bodies. They relate to
a district conference as well as to the national organization.
This relationship
between C&MA churches and their respective
districts is defined as constituted
authority.
In simple terms, this means that Alliance churches have
agreed that all legislation passed by the national body through General
Council and by one of its district conferences
is binding upon that district's constituent churches. When these legislative
assemblies act within the constitution of the movement, their actions are
authoritative.
The C&MA government places legislative assembly
as the ruling body on all three levels of jurisdiction: the local church,
the district conference, and the national assembly (known as General
Council).
As provided in the Bylaws of The Christian and Missionary Alliance, the
highest legislative body is General Council, which creates the broad
policy of the C&MA.
The Board of Directors is the
highest executive body of the C&MA. This
board cares for the business of the movement between the meetings of the
legislative assembly. Local churches, elected
officers, executive bodies, and legislative assemblies are all governed
by the constitutions, bylaws , procedures, and regulations found in the Manual
of The Christian and Missionary Alliance.
These constitute the principles by which the movement is organized.
U.S. National Office
The
U.S. National Office is made up of four divisions that help oversee the
ministry of the C&MA: Development, International
Ministries, National
Church Ministries,
and Operations/Finance. Advancement
works to mobilize constituents for Great Commssion involvement by praying,
giving, and serving. International Ministries is divided into four regional
offices (Africa, Asia/Pacific, Europe/Middle East, and Latin America) that
oversee 52 fields where more than 700 C&MA missionaries minister. National
Church Ministries oversees 30 geographic/ethnic districts and seven associations
(African-American, Chinese, Dega, Filipino, Haitian, Laotian, Spanich Western).
These districts and associations comprise nearly 2,000 churches with approximately
389,000 members and adherents. Operations/Finance provides operational
support and manages the finances of the C&MA.
